TURNITIN SCORE HOW TO
We understand that new students need to be given opportunities to learn about academic integrity This is why at SCU we give new students, in their first study session, the opportunity to learn how to practise academic integrity. So, it is important you learn about what it means in the SCU context.Īt SCU, we want to help set you up for study success. The rules and practices of academic integrity at SCU could be very different to the ones you know from previous studies and workplaces. At Southern Cross University, success as a student depends, in many ways, on your Academic Integrity, particularly when completing assessments It involves being honest about what is your work, what is influenced by other people's work and what is directly borrowed from someone else. At the same time, academic integrity can be a confusing idea at first, and most new students are not sure what they need to do to practise Academic Integrity.Īs a new student, you may not realise if you have breached academic integrity, and that there can be serious penalties. For example, students know that academic integrity is important, and want to do the ‘right thing’ and follow the rules.

Most new students experience waves of excitement, moments of challenge, and have lots of questions. But everyone at SCU wants to welcome new students, and help set you up for study success. When joining a new community it can be hard to know what is expected and how to do the right thing. There are a lot of new ideas, people, traditions and expectations to learn about, while also fitting study into your life.

And that is whu the teacher is having a little freak out. So if you are talking it has 20% originality it means that 80% is not your work. I had a student with a mark that high and asked her to rewrite the assignment. It means essentially you only wrote 20% of the essay. However if your originality score is only 20% that means that the rest is qouting directly from other sources and even if you have referenced it. If not you need to put the references in. This is what is important: Look at the pieces it has found and ask yourself the following question: Have I made clear by the appropirate referencing system (whatever your school or college uses) where I found that material. An 80% would mean that only about 20% of the assignment is in your own words. Now that could mean that you sucessfully paraphrased everything and still give evidence of your reading.with footnotes etc, Or it could mean that you have read no material and it is all from your own head. So a o% would mean that you had used no references that it recognised.
